A landowner Miami’s Overtown neighborhood seeks city approval to turn a former chemical site into a multifamily or mixed-use development.
The company bought the land last year from spaghetti western movie star Francisco Martínez-Celeiro, also known as George Martin, for $9.5 million..
This will allow for construction of up to 420 multifamily units on the site. The current zoning allows for up to 100 units.
Make a Wish foundation moving to Overtown!!
615 and 537 N.W. Fourth Ave., 364 to 330 N.W. Sixth St., and 590 to 530 N.W. Third Court , Overtown, Miami.
The project would create 40 jobs and aid the nonprofit organization’s mission of granting wishes for critically ill children between the ages of 2 1/2 and 17 years old. Currently, Make-a-Wish's South Florida headquarters are located in Fort Lauderdale.
The nonprofit wants to change the zoning of the property from “T6-8-L” to “T6-8-O.” Attorney Iris Escarra, who represents Make-a-Wish in the application, said this would allow it to build a larger office footprint. The current zoning allows office space to make up only 25% of the building. The overall size of the building permitted would not change.
The organization plans to build a 4-story office building and “Wish House” totaling about 25,000 square feet. There would be 41 parking spaces.
The building was designed by Arquitectonica.
I love the idea, just like I love Overtown for its history, people and vibe.
