New office building Alton is approved!

On June 21, city officials approved an alley vacation that will make it possible for the developer to connect two blocks and build the project. Designed by London-based Foster + Partners and Miami-based Kobi Karp Architecture, the five-story building would total about 250,000 square feet.
The project was set up when BH The Alton LLC, managed by Michael Shvo, acquired 1.38 acres at 1656-1680 Alton Road, plus 1677 West Ave., for a combined $39.2 million in early June. The site currently has one- and two-story commercial buildings, which would be demolished to build the project.
Germany-based Deutsche Finance America is its partner in the development, which will be called The Alton.
The first Foster + Partners office building in Miami Beach, this development builds upon SHVO’s collaboration with Foster + Partners at Transamerica Pyramid Center in San Francisco. Kobi Karp Architects will reinforce this vision as local veteran expertise. The Alton is slated for an emphatic commitment to quality, sustainability, and a conscious initiative to elevate the standard of Miami Beach office space.
Lord Norman Foster, Founder and Executive Chairman of Foster + Partners, said “Our design is inspired by the climate and vegetation of Florida to create a protected courtyard and to merge the workplace with nature and the outdoors. The Alton will be a model of healthy lifestyle and sustainability.”
